Studio DMI in Las Vegas Installs All-Focal 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos System

New Dolby Atmos mix room features Focal Trio11 Be for LCR and Solo6 ST6 for the surrounds and height speakers along with Sub12 subwoofers

Studio DMI, Las VegasFocal has announced the first all-Focal Dolby Atmos® mix room in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the famed Studio DMI headquarters. The new 7.1.4 ‘Studio D’ design features three of Focal’s flagship Trio11 Be pro monitors for LCR and eight of the company’s new Solo6 ST6 for the surrounds and height speakers. Two Focal Sub12 subwoofers handle LFE and bass management.

“A Focal system is great because it is a system that I trust and am comfortable with,” says Studio DMI Founder and world-renowned mixing and mastering engineer Luca Pretolesi. “It is an extension of my ears, allowing me to achieve a level of accuracy and precision in my sound stage that is unparalleled.” Pretolesi recently mixed Drake’s “Honestly, Nevermind” album at Studio DMI on their Focal Trio11 monitors. While engineer Robert Guzman mixed and mastered the new Skrillex album “Quest For Fire” in Dolby Atmos in the new Studio D.

Pretolesi explains his connection to the new studio design featuring Dolby Atmos and Focal monitors, “A Focal system with Dolby Atmos is a more dynamic, engaging, and immersive listening experience. It is high-quality and makes you feel like you’re right in the middle of the action.”

The studio design was completed in the Spring of 2022. The room design was by Haverstick Designs, with the technical systems design by Pretolesi and Focal’s Joshua Estock. The new Studio D includes custom acoustic treatments by Vicoustic and an Avid Pro Tools MTRX Studio System. Studio DMI’s 4,000-square-foot complex also houses three other Focal-based studios. Studio D, the immersive all-Focal mix room, was featured in Mix Magazine’s “Studio Class of 2022”, the magazine’s annual ‘Best of the Year’ series.

“We’re proud to play a small part in Studio DMI’s new Dolby Atmos room. It sets a new standard for immersive audio in Las Vegas,” added Josh Estock, Focal’s North American Pro Director. “The team at Studio DMI needed the system to extend low, without being sluggish and slow, while retaining all the detail and dynamics they expect from Focal monitors. They mix and master top-tier work, so the new system had to perform. Thanks to a fantastic sounding room by Haverstick Designs, exacting calibration by Dolby’s Jonathan Lessner, and our flagship Focal monitors, the room really exceeded expectations.  If you’re in Las Vegas, you need to hear this room.  It will knock your socks off in more ways than one.”

Having worked with Focal monitors for over 10 years the 9-time Grammy nominated Pretolesi felt right at home in the immersive setup, “Focal allows me to create a personalized audio environment that adapts to my specific needs and preferences. It’s a system that I can rely on to deliver a high-quality listening experience every time.”
